Eduard Aghajanyan Meets with Delegation Led by David McAllister
1 / 4

On July 22, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan and the Committee member Maria Kaapetyan met with the Delegation led by the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) David McAllister.

Welcoming the guests in parliament, Eduard Aghajanyan highlighted the visit of the Delegation to Armenia. The Committee Chair presented the history of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the created situation and the position of the Armenian side on the processes aimed at the establishment of regional peace and stability, as well as on the negotiations around the normalization of the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Eduard Aghajanyan underlined the issue of the security of the people living in Nagorno Kaabakh and the protection of their rights, noting that today they are standing before the security challenges. “We do not see the war as a solution of the problem, the peace is our agenda, and we expect the support of our international colleagues in this issue,” Eduard Aghajanyan said.

“We say that the conflict is not over yet, because the problem is not solved,” Maria Karapetyan noted, voicing the issue of the encroachments being carried out against the Nagorno Karabakh people. According to her, the situation being presented by the Azerbaijani side to the international community with beautiful words does not correspond to the reality. “We want to resolve the conflict. The war has been over, but the problem has not been solved,” the MP said, drawing the attention of the Delegation members to the discrepancy between the words and actions.

The Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) David McAllister noted that they wish to support the solution of the problem in constructive way.

A reference was also made to the possibilities of opening transport roads, the issue of repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other held persons being in Azerbaijan and the protection of cultural heritage of Artsakh.
